The ABC's of Cooking Magick

The kitchen and hearth is literally the heart of the home. Cooking can become a magickal act if you cook with intent. Visualize while you mix, chop, grind, stir and cook. When you are finished don't forget to garnish with powerful symbols.

Especially powerful?
Using foods that we have grown and harvested ourselves.

These two poems were written on an evening that the coven decided to cook a magickal meal together. Everyone brought what they needed to create one magickal dish. We then spent the evening in mindful contemplation as we created one of the most memorable meals that we have eaten. One kitchen and nine cooks -- amazingly, magically even, we managed to create a sacred space--our movements an intricate dance. While our various dishes were cooking, some of us used the time to reflect on what was happening in this most unusual circle.

Magickal Cooking and Eating

by Silverwind & Ivan

Always stir in a clockwise motion
Before you chop veggies, offer thanks
Cut mindfully, gratefully
Do all preparations in a loving spirit
Energize food with good thoughts
Feast gratefully
Give and share what you can spare
Home and hearth are sacred
Invoke blessings of God and Goddess on all food
Join hands with friends often
Kindness shows in serving food
Love goes into every dish
Mindfully gather ingredients
No wasting - recycle, compost, feed animals
Open your senses, enjoy your surroundings
Play as well as work
Quench thirst, thinking of clear clean rivers
Resolve to be grateful and waste not
Salivate as you smell fragrance and anticipate flavors
Thank the Universe and God & Goddess for health
Use utensils carefully, then clean up
Value time spent with loved ones
When possible grow and harvest your food
Xtra food is for creative recombining
Yearly rituals and feasts build traditions
Zestful living in every area is our goal.

The Magickal Kitchen

by Sabrae

Ah, the magickal kitchen
sacred space for blending the elements
dry & liquid
frothy & whipped

Tools of steel, plastic, wood and glass
--modern alchemical marvels--
the implements for destruction and creation
powered by machine or human sweat
Seperate and put back together
something original or traditional,
undiscovered or familiar

An aura of tastes, smells, sounds and textures permeate us
earthy and pungent
sharp and smooth
knives scraping
the clatter of metal upon metal
the crackling of roasting meat
the sizzle of the frying pan
the powdered residue of flour
the grit of salt and sugar
--all mark the boundary of the circle
As each dish is tempered by heat or cold.

Measured against intention
the cooperation of oft times disparate ingredients
come together
to feed our hungry soul.
